The fine print
-
This is a part time, 1099 hourly contractor position. Your primary job is client coaching and program delivery. Someone else schedules your client sessions for you and manages their membership and payments. Client memberships are monthly, with a set number of sessions per month (usually 3 or 6). We have a Deload Week at the end of every month, blocked off for no client sessions. You can use this time to rest, travel, or schedule makeup sessions.
-
After your paid onboarding process of 5-10 hours, you will start with 1 client. As new clients come and old clients leave, your weekly hours will fluctuate. We consider “full time” for this position to be an average of 20 training hours per week.
-
At this time, our primary benefit is a competitive hourly wage. We do not offer health insurance or 401K match. We will occasionally pay for your continuing education (workshops, certifications, etc.) relevant to the needs of PowerUP clients.
-
PowerUP has slowly + consistently grown since its inception in 2020. We’ve never fired a team member. As long as you are serving our clients well, communicating clearly, and our general values align, you can be confident in maintaining your position as a coach.

Payment for 1:1 training starts at $55/hour, and you’ll also receive a weekly set “client communication & programming” payment of $7 per client. Payment is sent weekly, determined based on your schedule and client list from the previous week. Payment is initiated on Mondays via a bank account transfer through Quickbooks, and typically arrives in your bank account Thursday or Friday. You’ll also be paid for periodic team meetings and new client consultations.
How to become part of the PowerUP team:
1) Sarah will review your application, and will either decline your application or invite you to step 2 within 48 hours. Apply here.
2) You will complete a short video interview (30 minutes max) with Sarah to discuss professional experience and education, coaching style, and goals for your career. If you both feel aligned, you’ll be invited to step 3.
3) You’ll complete a practical interview, in which you’ll demonstrate your teaching/instruction style and ability to adapt movements to client needs. You’ll receive a short list of considerations (areas of pain/injury, disability, etc.) ahead of the session, and come to the session prepared to lead the client through a short warmup, 3 basic strength movements, and a cooldown. Sarah will act as the client, and will ask questions and offer feedback as a client would during a real training session. If Sarah feels this interview has gone well, you’ll be invited to step 4.
4) There will be a paid onboarding process, during which you will:
review PowerUP team roles, policies, procedures, and community guidelines
introduce yourself to the PowerUP Community as a new coach
participate in a community event (workshop or other virtual event)
learn how to use the PowerUP app for scheduling, client sessions, and programming
shadow several of Sarah’s client sessions
5) As new clients apply for 1:1 training, they will be added to your schedule! You can expect an average of 1-2 new clients per month. This position can continue to be part time, or grow into a full time job over time if you’d like. We work hard to attract and maintain long-term clients, but a lot of that retention has to do with the client-coaching relationship.
