Kicking Ableism Out of Your Movement Practice

  • Sarah and Angel Austin explore the complicated relationship between fitness, healthism, and ableism in this upcoming PowerUP educational workshop.

Wednesday, July 30 at 6 pm CST

    • Specific ways that ableism shows up in the fitness industry, how to spot it, and how to reframe concepts so you can benefit from useful skills without adopting ableist concepts.

    • The trickle-down effect of “body positive” phrases such as “it’s not about how you look, it’s about what your body can do for you” and “it doesn’t matter how much you weigh, as long as you’re healthy.”

    • How to talk yourself through capacity challenges, setbacks, injuries, and intentional rest, while navigating chronic illness and/or pain.

    • How to set movement goals that are process-oriented instead of outcome-oriented, so you can do them regardless of your capacity.

  • $15 for non-clients, free for current clients

Located in the PowerUP app, hosted via Zoom. Workshop will be recorded and made available for all registrants.
